Face Reality™ Acne Bootcamp FAQ

How is the Face Reality™ Acne Bootcamp different?

Unlike other skincare solutions, our approach is not “one size fits all." Face Reality provides custom home care options for every age, gender, acne type and skin type, including Fitzpatrick 4+. We even take it one step further and take certain diet and lifestyle factors into careful consideration.

In as little as 3-4 months, you will see breakouts and hyperpigmentation diminish as well as a drastic improvement in overall complexion, all without the use of prescription medications. We combine the power of premium products and a comprehensive treatment protocol to successfully treat even our most challenging acne clients.

How much does the program cost?

The initial investment on products is around $150-$200. Most of the products will last roughly 8-12 weeks depending on the product and the regimen that you are placed on. The active ingredient products are purposefully put in smaller containers as these will be strengthened at different points in your treatment plan. The cost of the initial consultation including your first treatment is $85, and bi-weekly check-in appointments and treatments are $65. It typically takes about six treatments over a 3-month period of time to see results. If you come in for just a consultation before beginning the program, the cost is $65.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes! We're excited to introduce our new virtual program! This allows us to help clients clear their skin whether they live too far away from our studio, or are perhaps too busy to come in for treatments. Without the bi-weekly treatments and acne peels, we can still successfully clear your skin, although it may just take a little while longer than it would with the treatments. However, we will be with you every step of the way, making adjustments to homeware as needed, and always accessible to answer any questions you may have!

How long do appointments take?

The first consultation and treatment appointment is scheduled for about 1 ½ hours and subsequent appointments are 30-45 minutes. When you start to get clearer and there are fewer extractions to do, treatments will take less and less time.

What will happen at the appointment?

We consult with you regarding your experience and any prior treatments that you have had, (if any).

We analyze your acne and help you figure out what is causing your particular condition.

You will receive useful information regarding products, diet recommendations, medications etc.,

We will take some preliminary pictures to track your progress; about once a month.

Your skin will be tested for sensitivities.

You will receive a routine suited for your acne type, and we will show you how to use the products.

If you are getting a treatment, we will perform the treatment, which includes a mild corrective peel with extractions or a gentle enzyme treatment with extractions. Generally speaking, neither of these are uncomfortable. You may or may not experience some mild peeling after these treatments.

Do I have to use Face Reality products?

Yes, this is part of our program. There are too many brands in the marketplace that have pore-clogging ingredients in them. To ensure clear skin, we recommend using our products alone. Acne is tricky enough to treat – we do not want to take any chances with other potentially harmful or comedogenic products.

Do I have to get treatments?

Yes. If you live close enough to the studio, it is in your best interest to get acne treatments from us. That is the fastest way to get clear; and also helps us to monitor your home care to get you clear in the safest and fastest way possible. While we do offer a virtual program, it will typically take longer to see results without the in-person bi-weekly treatments.

How does the Face Reality system work?

Our program works by taking into account the type of acne you have, the type of skin you have and how fast your skin adapts to products. We keep pushing the skin to clear with products that penetrate the pore where acne starts. We don’t push it past its tolerance however, because we don’t want your skin to become dry and irritated. Our products prevent the new acne lesions from forming; we extract the existing acne lesions out and in about 3-4 months your acne is under control.

What if I'm on prescription products?

We require you to stop your prescription products 2-4 weeks before starting on our program. We have found that they make the skin much too sensitive to use our system. Therefore we generally do not recommend the use of any of them with our regimen. Quite simply, you would have to choose between our program or the prescription products that you are using.

How long will it take to get clear?

If you do your homecare twice a day and come in every two weeks for a treatment, you will most likely be clear in about three to four months. Some people might take a little longer depending on the nature of their acne and how closely they follow the recommended homecare guidelines that they are given.

Will I need to use Face Reality products forever?

You will need to use the products to continue controlling your acne or until you outgrow acne; and no one knows when that is. Many people do outgrow acne, but we are unable to predict when, so you may have to use the products for a while to manage your acne, but not necessarily forever.

What is the youngest age that you take clients?

We will take clients at whatever age they are breaking out. Acne does not discriminate – neither do we. Minors need to be accompanied by an adult and guardians need to give consent to our studio in-order to treat minors.

How long should I wait to get a treatment if I just got a peel, wax, microderm, or dermaplaning from another place of business?

We suggest that you wait at least a week, preferably two weeks before you come to see us. We don’t want your skin to become too irritated during a treatment or too irritated to use our home care system.

Are doctors or dermatologists on staff?

We do not have any physicians on staff. We are Estheticians licensed by the State of New York.

How are we different from doctors? We have more time to spend with you than a busy doctor. We can listen to all of your skin care concerns, and do not have a "one size fits all" approach. We keep updated with the latest research about acne. We have the best and most effective acne products that do not require a prescription. We have compassionate and empathetic clinicians who also have had acne, so we know what you are going through. We give you honest and straightforward answers to all of your skin care questions; and if we do not know the answer, we will do research. We keep in close contact with you throughout your process of getting clear; making sure that your home care is working properly and your skin is responding. We are hands-on with you in working with your skin, your skin type, your acne type and always do extractions in your treatment appointments.

What if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

We can still treat you for acne, but first you will have to get a list from your doctor as to what ingredients they want you to avoid.

Do you treat scarring?

If you have dark or red spots, then yes, those will be treated along with the acne. If you have pitted scars, acne peels and treatments may help speed up healing time, however those scars are best treated by a doctor, most likely with micro-needling or laser treatments.

Can you treat Keratosis Pilaris (aka "chicken skin or "strawberry skin")?

Yes, we do treat this condition with pretty good results.

Why do I have to give my credit card information when booking an appointment?

It is standard business practice to hold your appointment with a credit card number. We want to know that you are as serious as we are about helping you achieve clear skin. For in-person visits, our cancellation policy will apply.

*If you are scheduling a virtual appointment, your card will be charged at the time of booking.
